Introduction:
LegalSuite has developed a very convenient way of
allowing us to communicate with our clients more
effectively; namely RSS Messaging. This software uses
a .net application to pass messages from
LegalSuite to you, our clients.
There is an error that you may come across whilst using this application.
The following whitepaper will explain the cause as well as the “solution” to this error.
The Error

Reason for this error: The RSS Messaging program cannot communicate with LegalSuite’s SQL Server.
This is typically due to the fact that the ports used by Microsoft SQL Server, have been blocked.
The Resolution
The default Microsoft SQL Server Ports are: 1433 and 1434 – these ports need to be “opened” on the
router’s firewall, as well as any other firewalls that may be active on the Server and / or the workstations.
Ports 1433 and 1434 need to be opened for incoming and outgoing (TCP and UDP) connections.
[Passive and Active]
Please note:
Microsoft SQL Server is a very powerful application, if your security is compromised through these ports,
the results could be catastrophic.
For this reason access must be restricted to ONLY www.legalsuite.co.za OR the static IP address of
196.25.33.23
For added security it is advised to ensure that you have a strong “sa” password for Microsoft SQL Server.
Conclusion
Network security is the responsibility of the client
and the people who manage their I.T infrastructure.
LegalSuite will, under no circumstances make changes
to a clients network security even if requested to
do so by the client.
LegalSuite cannot be held responsible for any loss or
damages, compromised network security and / or data
leakage that may have been caused directly or indirectly by the advice given in this document.
